Chinese New Year is an annual celebration of the first day of the Chinese lunar calendar. This year, Chinese New Year lands on January 28th, 2017.
Each new year has an associated zodiac animal, based on a repeating 12 year cycle of animals with associated characteristics and qualities. Each year also has an associated element, based on the 5 Element Theory. This week, we are transitioning from 2016’s Year of the Fire Monkey to 2017’s Year of the Fire Rooster.
The Year of the Rooster embodies characteristics of the Rooster zodiac sign – loyalty, honesty, commitment, hard work and maintaining your appearance to look your best. Roosters like to be active and surrounded by others, are open and honest in conversation and make loyal friendships. This year it is important to make a good first impression and become clear in your intentions and visions. Fire years can be dynamic and can bring many changes, but similar to fire, can also lead to feeling restless, aggressive, impatient and impulsive. Take care to not get carried away by precarious or risky projects and investments, and instead maintain staying grounded in practical solutions.
In preparation for the new year, traditional activities include anything that signifies a fresh start and new beginning, from cleaning your house to paying off debts. The New Year is a time to spend celebrating with family and friends – cheers to a happy and healthy Year of the Rooster!
